    CREA! ©

CREA! (Creative Research Environment for Air Traffic Management) is an inter-disciplinary approach to design that encourages intersections between art, design and technology borrowing from each discipline practices, methods and experience for the definition of innovative concepts. The application of the approach in complex domains like ATM is innovative and challenging since the exploitation of design practices and methods from disciplines different from engineering and human factors is largely unexplored. All innovation in such domain is constrained by a problem solving view, neglecting other factors like aesthetic, affective, cultural and emotional … [more]

    CRIA © (CRitical Interaction Analysis)

CRIA is a Human Factors methodology for the investigation of  safety-critical systems like ATM (Air Traffic Management), aviation and railways. The main goal of CRIA is to analyse the interactions between the human component of a system and the other components: procedures, equipment, other humans, organisational aspects. Such analysis brings to the identification of strength and weakness points of the system as a whole, so that mitigation actions can be studied to reduce the probability of the occurrence and the severity of critical events within the system. CRIA has its … [more]

    Safety Assessment

Deep Blue has a wide experience in conducting safety assessments in Air Traffic Management and other safety critical domains, including railway transport and nuclear power plants. Our approach is compliant with the relevant European standards for Air Traffic Management and aeronautical systems, such as ESARR 4 (European Safety Regulatory Requirements). Furthermore the methods we apply maximise the integration of knowledge coming from people with different backgrounds inside organisations, including operational, technical and safety experts. For this purpose our strategy is that of mixing formal descriptions and narrative accounts of the … [more]

    Human Reliability Assessment

In Deep Blue, we move from the theoretical position that human reliability is strongly affected by the local working conditions and organisational factors. This tenet is in coherence with what advocated by state-of-the-art models of organisational safety. We thus see quantification of human performance as context dependent, as local factors dramatically change frequency and severity of effects of human operator actions. The first step of our approach is to build realistic activity and incident models, so to predict how humans will be influenced by the system under analysis and the … [more]

    Training

Deep Blue has a consolidated experience in adult learning including the design, development and deployment of training packages. Our approach is rooted in the constructionist theory of learning which claims that knowledge is not information to be acquired, encoded, stored, retrieved, and re-applied, but an experience to be actively built, both individually and collectively. Learners are the builders of their own cognitive tools, as well as of their external realities. In other words, knowledge and the world are both constructed and interpreted through action, and mediated through symbol use. Indeed … [more]
