HILAS - Human Integration in the Lifecycle of Aviation Systems

HILAS (Human Integration into the Life-cycle of Aviation Systems) is an integrated project of the 6th European Framework Program, based on a consortium of aircraft equipment manufacturers, airlines, maintenance organisations, service providers, research establishments and universities. The overall goal of the project is to develop and evaluate an integrated model of good practice for the integration of human factors across the life-cycle of aviation systems. The project contains four parallel strands of work: integration and management of human factors knowledge; flight operations environment and performance; evaluation of new flight deck technologies; monitoring and assessment of maintenance operations.

    Deep Blue role

Deep Blue is involved in the definition of the human factors Knowledge Integration model (first strand) and provides a methodological contribution to the evaluation of new Flight Deck Technologies (third strand). Based on previous experiences in the study of complex interactive systems, a special attention is devoted to the analysis of the interaction between human, equipment and procedural components, aimed at transforming the operational knowledge of the users into new design ideas.
