This project will deliver a full Training Package to provide ATM Safety Actors with a comprehensive generic Human Factors training that enables them to better cope with human related issues in their day to day safety roles.
The Training package (including Training Syllabus, training plan, and Course Materials) delivered will be validated within the project itself by means of two pilot courses.

The approach proposed by Deep Blue identifies the following issues as the main characteristics that training shall have:

• Contextualise: to present operational tasks - scenarios;
• Provide real-world, case-based learning environments, rather than pre-determined instructional sequences;
• Enable context- and content-dependent knowledge construction;
• Support collaborative construction of knowledge through social negotiation, not competition among learners for recognition.

In order to match the above mentioned guidelines Deep Blue will ensure that the Training Package is deeply contextualised in the ATM domain, providing real world Human Factors case studies and examples coming from this domain. By rooting the content in the operational reality Deep Blue will enable participants in building new human factor related knowledge on their present and consolidated skills. The course will be designed in a way that it will be much more facilitative in nature than prescriptive. Some of the learning activities will be "passive", i.e. reading and listening. But "higher level learning", as the one in object, requires active learning. Therefore the course will use a variety of forms of learning (e.g., lectures, discussions, small groups, writing, etc.), both to support different kinds of learning goals and different learning styles.

Given the participative approach proposed by Deep Blue for the training during the pilot common interactive techniques such as guide discussion, role-play, case study, group-work and cooperative learning will be adopted.

Deep Blue role

Deep Blue is in charge of the whole project from identification of the training objectives to the identification of learning needs and requirements, from the definition of the most appropriate educational format to the delivery of course materials, including presentation trainer's manual, trainee's handbook, from the delivery of two pilot courses to the release of a full training package.

Currently we are working on the definition of the training objectives and their incorporation into a list of topics to be developed in order to cover the Safety Actors' learning needs.
